These little wooden tags make great gift tags or can be hung as ornaments. The wooden cutouts are available at craft stores in various shapes and sizes.
Supplies
Graphics for background (I used Michelle Coleman’s BohoChic from ScrapArtist)
Sealer (Krylon’s Crystal Clear or Preserve-It!)
Wood Cut-Out Shapes
Glue
Acrylic Paint and Brush
Sandpaper or sanding sponge
Ribbon
Optional – dimensional paint/glaze
Directions
1. Create your layout (LO) in your graphics program (I used Lumapix’s FotoFusion) Print out your background image. (I used Epson’s Photo Quality Inkjet Paper when using the inkjet printer and ordinary copy paper when using a color laser printer) Allow the ink to dry at least 30 min but overnight would be better.
2. Spray the printout with a clear coating to protect the ink from smearing. Repeat for 2 or 3 coatings, drying well in between coats.
3. Sand the wood and paint with acrylics, if desired.
4. On the back of the printout, place the wood shape face down and trace. Trim inside the lines so that the paper is smaller than the wood shape.
5. Glue the paper to the wood and dry thoroughly
6. Sand the edges of the paper to distress it a bit.
7. Wrap with ribbon
Optional – Use dimensional paint/glaze to embellish as desired
Recommendations/Suggestions
This can be done with designs on the paper such as the ones below that I added photos and names. You can add paper to the back of the shape as well for an ornament. By adding a pin to the back of the shape you can create jewelry pieces. Be creative and have fun. Be sure to show us your results by posting in the gallery.
