Candy Wrapper Central

You can use these basic steps for customizing any type of candy or anything else. The most important step you will always need to do for everything is to get the size of the custom wrapper right. The easiest way to do this is simply with a ruler.

To begin with, I recommend you use a pretty basic printing program. The reason is the lower cost programs start out by showing a blank sheet of paper on the screen. The reason I like that is because once you have the design finished, you can copy it all over the page and get the most prints per page. FYI, for this tutorial I am using "Print Artist 3.0" (very old, compatible with windows 3.1!!!!!) on a Pentium 200mhz computer. My point being, you can use any computer and pretty much any print program to do this. I am using the little hershey bars you buy by the bag but remember you can do this with any candy.

Step 1

Measure the object. I am going to make the prints 1 3/8" wide and after measuring the total lengths of all 4 sides I am making the prints 3 1/2" long. The length is not as crucial as the width. Just make sure you have enough to glue the ends together later.

Step 2.

Next you want to draw out a box in your print program using the measurements from the previous step. This will be the margins that you will use for your wrapper.

Step 3

For this step you design your wrapper. This, most likely, will take the most amount of time. You will work on your layout and print it out several times to test how it will look. You should always do your test prints on plain paper.

Step 4

Cut out your test print and wrap the candy bar. You can then adjust the layout and work out the final print. You will probably have to repeat steps 3 and 4 several times.

Step 5

OK the next step is to do your final prints. You can simply duplicate the design all over the page and cut them down with a paper cutter.

Step 6

Now you have your wrappers and are ready to put them on the candy bars.

Step 7

The final step is to put the wrapper on the candy! You can do this several different ways. People use scotch tape, double sided tape, glue, even hot glue guns to do this. The best, fastest, and easiest way we have seen to do this is with this thing. It applies a thin tape-like film to whatever surface your working with. The adhesive stays gummy and does not harden and the dispenser makes applying the adhesive film a breeze. Observe the next few captions and be prepared to be amazed!!!!!!

Step 8

When using the handy adhesive film dispenser, it is easiest to start by applying the film to the top of the bar.

Step 9

With the adhesive applied, you can now position the wrapper.

Step 10

Flip the bar over and apply a strip of adhesive film on the inner flap.

Step 11

Wrap the first flap over the bar, and apply a strip of adhesive film on the second flap.

Step 12

And VOILA it's done!

NEVER NEVER alter the original packaging in any way. In all these cases, you are simply covering the original wrapper with a custom overwrap. Not only will you be risking a lawsuit from someone saying they got sick from you handling the candy, but all candy manufacturers forbid the altering of their original packaging.
